Believe it or not, you don't have to venture out to a restaurant to enjoy happy hour with your people. After a day of sending emails, typing out reports, and attending meetings on Zoom, you can still pour a glass of wine and catch up with your BFFs. Thanks to apps on your phone, like FaceTime and Google Hangouts, you can even challenge everyone to a few virtual happy hour games.

You can enjoy a game night with friends without actually being together. Here are15 virtual games you can play over FaceTime during your next game night.

  • Apr 22, 2020 Although virtual connection can’t replace the real thing, virtual apps and games that allow your child to play alongside and challenge friends can add tons of fun to their day. These are some of the best free virtual games kids can play with friends while social distancing.

  • Jun 15, 2020 Let’s Roam Virtual Game Night. Yes, there is a platform that combines video chat technology with fun games. Let’s Roam’s Virtual Game Night is that platform. In five rounds of gameplay, you’ll encounter a range of games like charades, Let’s Draw (virtual Pictionary), trivia, and personalized questions (about you and your friends).
  • Take on other players in board games, MMO games, strategy games, and even social games in this great collection of 2 player games. You can team up with a friend or battle them to the death in these free online games. Jump behind the controls of a tank and find out if you can destroy their tank before they send yours to the scrap heap.

These are the games you might have played in person — after ordering a pitcher for the table or perusing the menu for sliders, wings, and other tasty appetizers — or they may be entirely new to you and your happy hour crew. Either way, they'll likely brighten your day and give you a reason to smile. They may bring you closer to people who you may have considered acquaintances beforehand, too, and give you a chance to tell your greatest stories.

To get started, you simply have to make sure everyone has the same app on their phone and coordinate a time everyone is free to 'happy hour' in a group chat. Once you've reached a time, log on accordingly and have a drink prepared. After everyone has caught up on the latest hot gossip, propose playing one of these 15 games. Grape times are ahead.

1. 'Never Have I Ever'

The first of these games is a classic: 'Never Have I Ever.' In this game, every friend puts up five fingers and takes a turn saying something they've never done. If you have done it, you put one finger down. The last friend with a finger up wins.

2. 'Would You Rather'

Most of us have pretty strong opinions. Your happy hour crew is no exception and will have heated (but fun) debates thanks to 'Would You Rather.' Start it off by asking your BFFs, 'Would you rather only be able to whisper or only be able to shout?' Then, sit back and watch the game grow.

3. '20 Questions'

If you've never played '20 Questions' before, then virtual happy hour with your friends will be a grape time to try it out. Start by having one friend think of a person, place, or thing. Then, have each friend ask a question and see if you can figure out what that person, place, or thing is. The only catch: You have to figure it out in 20 questions or less.

4. 'Two Truths And One Lie'

Virtual Free Games Online

One of your favorite icebreaker activities in college might've been 'Two Truths and One Lie.' This game instantly makes you closer to the friends in your life, revealing their wildest stories and fun facts. Just come up with two truthful statements and one lie, and see if the group can guess which one is the lie. The more clever you can be, the better.

5. 'Guess My Sign'

Astrology-loving friends will adore playing 'Guess My Sign.' It's pretty simple: Based on what you know about someone, their personality, and their interests, you have to guess their zodiacsign. If you're right, treat yourself to a sip or snack.

6. 'A Famous People Picnic'

Virtual Games With Friends

Are you and your crew deeply interested in everything related to popular culture? Do you frequently talk about celebs at the office or who's dating who? In that case, play 'A Famous People Picnic,' where you declare the five famous people you'd want to have a picnic with. See how your answers differ from those of your BFFs.

7. 'For One Million Dollars'

Spoiler alert: Not everyone would do anything for one million dollars. Some people wouldn't touch a spider, even if it meant receiving a giant check at the end. In 'For One Million Dollars,' you get to find out where your BFFs draw the line.

8. 'Name That Song'

You don't have to be a pop star in order to play 'Name That Song.' You just need to be able to hum and have a similar taste in music to your happy hour crew. In this game, one BFF starts humming a song and the rest have to guess what song it is. This game gets lively, and fast.

9. 'Tell Me Your Top Three'

What are your top three rom-coms of all time? What are your top three snacks in your kitchen? In this game, you reveal it all while drinking wine, eating snacks, and hanging out with your BFFs ~virtually~.

10. 'Dance Battle'

Do yourself a favor and set up your laptop or phone in a place where it won't fall for 'Dance Battle.' Then, when your camera has a good view, your BFF is ready, and you've chosen a song, challenge each other to a dance-off. Have everyone else judge and decide who the winner is.

11. 'Tour Guide'

Playing 'Tour Guide' can be fun if you're having happy hour with co-workers or friends who don't see your space on the reg. It simply entails having each person give everyone else a tour of their apartment or home. Of course, only play this game if you feel comfortable to.

12. 'Cooking Show'

Fun virtual games with friends

Create your very own version of Chopped or Top Chef during 'happy hour' with your friends and play 'Cooking Show.' In this game, you teach your crew how to put together your favorite nachos or cook homemade meatballs. The recipe or delicious snack is up to you, but be sure to end the game with a chef's kiss.

13. 'Snack Attack'

The rules of 'Snack Attack' are simple. When your crew starts to get hungry during 'happy hour,' you pull out the snack of your choosing and begin to rate it. After a few bites, you give your people a review of the notes, flavors, and crunch factor. At the end, you answer this vital question: 'Would you snack on it again?'

14. 'The Alphabet Game'

You've probably heard of 'The Alphabet Game.' However, it can come with different rules. When you're doing a virtual happy hour with your friends, play the version where someone picks a category — like fruits, colors, or places you'd go on #vacay — and then everyone takes their turn naming something in that category, with the first letter being their designated letter in the alphabet. Play a few times to keep the party going.

15. 'Meet My Dog'

Pets are bound to make an appearance during your happy hour with your friends. When that happens, you should start to play 'Meet My Dog.' This game works for any animal, really, but is meant to bring your friends closer to your forever fluff. Tell them your pet's name, favorite food, and what they like to do all day.

If you’ve got an itch for a competitive (or friendly!—but mostly competitive, am I right?) game night, you don’t need to have your friends with you in person to have an amazing time. There are so many games to play on Zoom with your friends for the ultimatevirtual game night. From games where you don’t need anything but your brain—and maybe a cocktail or two if you’re feeling frisky—to online multiplayer options you can play on your phone or computer while video chatting on Zoom, you’re sure to find the perfect game night option for you and your BFFs. Let out your competitive side, have a few laughs and spend the night connecting with those you love. Even if you can’t see your friends IRL, you can still spend time with them and have a blast playing these games on Zoom.

Try your hand at trivia (with a twist!) and see who knows everyone in the group the best. Will secrets come out? Maybe! It’s all in the drama of the game, and you don’t have to be in person to play. You can even opt to play a few rounds of an online version of Cards Against Humanity if you wish. Who knows your sense of humor the best? You’ll find out with this virtual card game. Plus, there are so many other fun games you can play with your friends on Zoom—many of which can easily be turned into drinking games (wink, wink) if you choose to imbibe. However you choose to Zoom it up with some games, you’re bound to have a blast.

Below, you’ll find 10 different games you play with your pals while you Zoom. Have fun, get creative and remember that distance is only physical. Spending time with your loved ones over a computer or phone can still be a great experience and allow you to remain close to friends and family—that is, until they beat you in trivia. Then it’s war.

Games with friends newtoy

1. Pictionary

While Pictionary is usually played in person, you can totally play over Zoom. Just use the present tool to show the person whose turn it is while they draw on a piece of paper, mini whiteboard—whatever they have on hand. The rules can remain the same, and there can be multiple teams depending on how many people are in the chat. And, to make it even easier, there’s an online Pictionary word generator available (Gotta love technology!), so you don’t have to figure how to collect everyone’s ideas.

2. Psych

Best

Psych is an app you can get on your phone and play with your friends while chatting on Zoom. You and your BFFs make up fake answers to trivia questions, and then let one player try and guess which answer is actually true. If you want to get personal, too, there’s an option that allows you to make up answers to questions about your friends—so you can see who really knows you.

3. Online Bingo

There’s a reason bingo is popular in every single retirement home, OK? It’s fun! And now, thanks to this online bingo card generator, you can play with your friends while you talk on Zoom. It’s completely free, and you can have up to 30 (!!!) players. If you have a bigger group, though, there’s the option to pay for an extra 70 cards. Huge friend groups, rejoice!

4. Trivia

Even if you can’t go to a bar to have a fun trivia night with your friends, you can still have the same amount of fun over a Zoom chat! Separate your friends into teams—or make it every person for themself!—and let the games begin. You can even use this random trivia generator if you don’t want to make up the questions yourself.

5. Scattergories

If you’ve ever played the game Categories, this online version works the same way. All you have to do is pick a category (like books, types of sodas, fruits—You get the picture.) and have everyone each name something in that category. The first person who can’t think of anything is out. If you’d rather not come up with your categories, though, you can rely on this Scattergories generator to help out.

6. Charades

Charades is another game that’s typically played IRL, but easily translates to online. Separate into teams and let the fun begin. Don’t forget to use the presenter tool on Zoom to pin the screen of the person acting out the clues, though! You can also use this charades ideas generator to make things simpler.

7. Quiplash On Jackbox Games

Quiplash is a great online option that gets everyone in a group involved, and can easily be played on a PC, Mac or Linux computer. Everyone tries to write the funniest answer to a question, each person then votes and a winner of the round is declared. You can play Quiplash easily with members of your household or friends who are far away.

8. Skribbl

Skribbl is kind of like a combination of Pictionary and trivia. Once you create a private room on the site for your friends, you choose a word from the list provided and attempt to draw it—in 80 seconds. Everyone else has to guess what you’re drawing. If you’re an artist, this is your time to shine, baby.

9. Never Have I Ever

Never Have I Ever is a classic drinking game, but can easily be turned into a fun virtual game night activity over Zoom. You don’t need any cards, generators or apps for this one. Simply put up three (or 10!) fingers, name something you haven’t done, and see who in your group has. If you have done whatever’s mentioned, you must put down a finger. Whoever loses all their fingers first, loses.

10. Remote Insensitivity

The classic hilarious—and oftentimes slightly offensive, TBH—game Cards Against Humanity goes virtual with this online version called Remote Insensitivity. You can play on your phone while video chatting on Zoom. All you have to do is send your room link to all your friends, and you’re instantly in a battle to gain the most cards.
